Inscription Skill

There are several uses for Inscription. The primary one is crafting

spell scrolls. Making a scroll consumes mana, reagents and a blank scroll. On top of that, for every spell scroll you want to make you must already have that spell in your spellbook. A

scribe's pen is also required to make spell scrolls.

The main use of spell scrolls is to put them into a spellbook and sell those books; very few players cast directly from scrolls. Sometimes players use energy vortex scrolls: players who keep their magery low for a higher success chance at 100 Magery, or perhaps to get the faster casting of high Chivalry, may use these scrolls. Finally, recall scrolls can sometimes be dropped into runebooks to recharge them.

Most players train inscription purely for combat purposes. At 100 inscription your spells do roughly 10% more damage. In addition, the effect of the magic reflection spell is increased. At 100 inscription, if you cast both reactive armor and magic reflection, you get an extra +5 bonus to every one of your resists.

With Inscription you can also copy books (use the skill directly from the skill list) or craft things such as a bulk order book.

With a scribe's pen you can craft spellbooks as well. There are 2 types of spellbook you can make:

  1. A spellbook that can carry magical properties. These books can hold spells, and when crafted they have a chance of getting 3 magical properties. The number and quality of the properties depend on your skill level in the magic that matches the type of book being made (magery, Mysticism or Necromancy). If you hold the spellbook in your hand like a weapon, you will receive those magical properties. Typically the most useful property for these spellbooks is the Slayer property. While holding a slayer spellbook, most spells deal double damage against the matching creature type, except for the harm and mind blast spells.
  2. An enhanceable spellbook cannot be used like a normal spellbook. Spell scrolls cannot be dropped into it. Even so, you can hold this book in your hand and receive its magical properties. When an enhanceable spellbook is crafted it has no magical properties. The properties of a piece of jewellery can be applied to the book: double-click the enhanceable book, target the jewellery, and the jewellery will be absorbed by the book. This cannot be undone.
