Mining Skill

Mining is probably the most useful harvesting skill. Higher mining skill lets you reach higher tier metals and, of course, gives you a better chance of success when smelting them.

To mine and to raise this skill, use a pickaxe or a shovel on a cave/dungeon floor, a mountainside or a rock outcrop. Shovels are usually preferred because they are lighter, and weight matters: iron ore is heavy and you will want as much free space in your pack as possible.

Once you have ore, you can smelt it into ingots by double-clicking it and targeting a forge. The traditional technique is to use a pack animal to carry your ore and smelt it at a town forge. These days miners find it more effective to recall to the mountains and then back to a forge. They also find it effective to smelt on a fire beetle.

The skill levels you need in order to mine coloured ore:

  • Dull Copper - 65
  • Shadow Iron - 70
  • Copper - 75
  • Bronze - 80
  • Golden - 85
  • Agapite - 90
  • Verite - 95
  • Valorite - 99

Grandmaster miners can also dig up sand and granite. To do so, you first have to buy and read the training books, which can be found on the gargoyles in the gargoyle city. After reading them, single-click your shovel and choose the material you want to mine.
