What Is Ultima Online and How Is It Played?
Ultima Online
Ultima Online, a continuation of the Ultima game series designed by Origin Systems, is an MMORPG developed by Mythic Entertainment and released by EA Games on 25 September 1997.
The Game World
As in the other games in the series, it takes place in a world called Ultima. You take your first step into the game by logging into one of the servers, called shards, and creating a character there. During character creation you choose your character's name, physical features, skills and the city you will start in. Depending on the server there are a number of rules the player has to follow. Within those rules, players are free to do as they please.

Playing the Game
How developed a character is, is measured by the progress of their skill points. There is a wide range of skills in the game. You can be a tailor, a bard, a thief, an archer, and you can even be a beggar. Skill points run from 0 to 100.0. Total skill points come to 700.0. With power scrolls and various pieces of jewellery a skill can go up to 120.0. The total skill cap can go as high as 720.0 depending on the age of the player character.

Besides skill points there are three physical stats: strength, dexterity and intelligence. Their total cannot go over 225. A single stat caps at 100. Depending on the character's age and the server's rules, the total can be raised as high as 255.

Expansions
Various expansion packs have been built on top of the original Ultima Online and released to keep the game going. As well as new weapons and creatures, these expansions can bring new character classes and even new lands to travel to in game. Eight expansion packs have been released so far.
